SHREWSBURY FILM

Shrewsbury Film goes on–line

We are concluding our year-long online film society before taking a summer break and preparing to re-open at the Hive on Friday 24th September, conditions permitting. Please do join us for our 25th and final "show" of the 2020-21 season!

It works like this:

  1. We pick a film that is available for streaming.
  2. We post an introduction to it on Youtube.
  3. We all get together on Zoom at an agreed time to talk about the film.

Our final film in the online format

… is The New Girlfriend (France, 2015, 104 mins, cert 15), based on a short story by Ruth Rendell and directed by Francois Ozon, who also directed Frantz, which we watched together a couple of monts ago. This is a witty and cleverly-plotted drama about modern gender roles.

We do hope that you will be able to join us. Our aim is to preserve some of the camaraderie of watching films together. Even if you can’t join us on Zoom, we still hope you will make time to watch a first-rate film, and that the introduction and film notes (available here, although beware that this gives away a plot twist.) will add something extra to your film viewing.

Planning for reopening

We would also be grateful if you could complete our very short, six question survey about reopening which you can find here.

Best wishes,
Peter, Sally and Corinne
